Spring is here! The time has finally come for a deep spring cleaning for your pet.
The spring season is also just the start of flea & tick season, and you can take steps to avoid possible infestations with a little tidying up. Take preventive action before the start of the season by freshening up your pet’s toys, bedding, and spots they frequent.
Start by washing all pet bedding and throws.
Eliminate any possible fleas and ticks that could be lingering in their bedding with a wash. If you notice their beds have lost their support or are looking a bit shredded, now is a perfect time to shop for something new.
Clean out the toy box.
Many pet toys are machine washable, so you won’t have to throw away your pet’s favorite toy. Place machine-washable toys on a delicate cycle for a quick freshening up. And for those made from rubber and harder materials, try soaking them in disinfectant.
However, not all toys can be saved. Toys that are broken, especially if they have stuffing and squeakers inside them, should be thrown away and replaced. If your pet is particularly fond of a toy, stock up on some extras so that you can replace them regularly, so they can stay clean and keep playing.
Check the medicine cabinet.
While you’re at it, now’s also a good time to check through your pet’s medications, supplements, and flea and tick products to ensure that they haven’t past their expiration date. Be sure to check that the packaging is properly sealed and thus safe to use.
If you’re out of a flea & tick preventive, PetArmor® Plus is a great option to keep your pet safe this flea season. PetArmor® Plus kills fleas, flea eggs, flea larvae, ticks and chewing lice for up to 30 days. Available for both dogs and cats, this is an easy-to-use, fast-acting topical that’s affordable for all pet parents.
Maintain good pet hygiene.
Spring also marks the start of the official shedding season. Pets start to get rid of thick winter fur in preparation for warmer weather ahead. Shedding is a normal and natural occurrence for cats and dogs. It’s how they remove dead hair from their bodies and maintain their coats in good condition.
Speed the shedding process up with a de-shedding tool and de-shedding shampoos. Try special alcohol-free wipes formulated especially for cats that can help control shedding within your home.
Pet parents don’t have to wait till springtime to start cleaning. Keep up with your pet's health and hygiene all year long to prevent fleas and ticks from invading their home and space. If your pet does happen to become infested with fleas and ticks, trust PetArmor® for all your flea & tick protection.
